Speed Painting

Welcome to…

Speed Painting

Have fun learning or enhancing your digital toolset!

Speed painting is a method of painting or illustration, primarily a digital art form, in which one paints on a time budget, using already developed methods to create a piece. Often this term is applied to a different form of art, a time-lapse video of a painting. Speed Painting is a widely used term in the Entertainment industry, often amongst Concept Artists.

For those who have courses related to digital painting this will boost their skillset and confidence within the medium. For others it's a chance to try out something new and get creative.

Redeemed Campus Fellowship

Welcome to…

Redeemed Campus Fellowship

The Redeemed Campus Fellowship (formerly R.A.C.E: Running According to Christ’s Example and also Fountain of Life Student Fellowship)

The UHSU Redeemed Campus Fellowship is a society run by students at the University of Hertfordshire and was birthed by the Fountain of Life (RCCG) Church in Welwyn Garden City and now The Redeemed Christian Church of God. We are a group of young people with a common purpose of understanding, living and sharing the Gospel of Christ to the world while in the process building and empowering ourselves to reach our full God-given potentials.

Our fellowship involves a number of activities aimed to be relevant and real enough to connect with a generation that are tired of living a life without God and thus seek to truly find Him for themselves. These activities include bible study, prayer, praise and worship sessions, drama, guest ministrations, socials and many more.

We meet every Wednesday at the Key Centre from 6:00pm - 8.00pm. Come and experience the presence of God even in your youth!!!

(Refreshments/Tea socials at the end of every meeting Smile)

Swing Dance

The aim of the UHSU Swing Dance Society is to bring Lindy Hop, (a partnered authentic street jazz dance) to the University of Hertfordshire and to share the passion for jazz, swing and big band style music with the social partner dance called Lindy Hop, amongst those with similar interests.

The group (University of Hertfordshire Student’s Union Swing Dance Society - UHSUSDS) will hold weekly Lindy Hop classes for students at the university to learn the dance. We will also organise our own social dances, as well as trips to other social swing dance events around Hertfordshire, London, rest of the UK and abroad.

Thanks to its unique passion for all things swing dancing and a big drive for RaG Week, UHSUSDS achieved 'Society of the Year' award last academic year (2008-09)! Thank you to all those involved in running the fabulous society and of course to all the people who are part of it, we couldn't have done it without you!

The main aim of PSiFA is to promote Science Fiction and Fantasy and similar genres in many forms, and to generally have fun and socialise with like-minded friendly people.

PSiFA is, at this very moment, just starting it's 31st year! (I can tell you're impressed).

Basically, PSiFA has always been about having fun with Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Horror, Anime and the rest of it. While there is a time and a place for obsessive fandom, (Let's call it what it is, a rather disturbing tendency to know ALL about your favourite T.V show, film, books, what ever) PSiFA believes it is more important to have fun.

This, coupled with a friendly atmosphere and regular varied meetings, has helped make PSiFA the longest running society at the University of Hertfordshire.

PSiFA has many meetings and events happening throughout the year, covering a wide range of interests.

Krishna Consciousness

Welcome to…

Krishna Consciousness

The UHSU Krishna Consciousness Society aims to teach people about spirituality in an open-minded way, and how to apply it to modern day life.

Our core philosophy is based on the Srimad Bhagavatam and Bhagavad Gita (As-it-is), adapting and conveying the teachings in an accessible way- through ‘Lifestyle Management’, ‘Vedic Perspectives’ and ‘Spirituality and success’ courses. We are in no way proselytizing, but instead we just invite people to take the journey of self-discovery and make up their own mind about where they stand.

People enjoy the down-to-earth talks and informal atmosphere of the events, not to mention the free meal!! People feel inspired by the messages in the talk and they also enjoy the soul searching yoga and meditation sessions. People should join if they want to learn more about Krsna Consciousness, are interested in spirituality, if they’re simply curious, or even if they just want to see what the fuss is about. It’s open to anyone and everyone from all backgrounds and ages. If you are interested in joining this society, check out our facebook group and click join p>Does God exist? Who is He? What does He look like? Why can't I ever see Him or hear Him? Is God really a He?

Welcome to…

Motorsport (formerly Go Karting)

The UHSU Motorsport (formerly Go-karting) Society is designed as a fun event-based society, with races being held at various times and venues throughout the year. This year we will also be focussing on MotorSports.

{image_title} {image_title} {image_title} {image_title} {image_title} {image_title}

By joining the society, you get to race with a large group of students like yourself, which allows the cost per person to be less than if you were to turn up at the track by yourself.

By being part of the society, you also get the opportunity to meet like-minded people and compete against them at each event. Free transport can be provided if necessary, and a trophy and bottle of champagne is given to the winner of each event.

Further information can be found on the UHSU Go Karting Facebook page, at:
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000459403014

Details for each event will be announced on both Studynet and Facebook well in advance of the race date, and payment is requested to be given before each event.

The details of exceptional drivers can be passed on to the Formula Student team with a recommendation from us (though this is no guarantee of a place, we are not affiliated with them).

Please read the FAQ in the info section of the Facebook page, and if you have any further queries, either post a message on the Facebook wall or use one of the contact emails to the right.

Discussion

Welcome to…

Discussion

Providing students with an opportunity to discuss issues that concern students, raise awareness of current affairs and encourage students to voice their opinions.

Who are we?

The UHSU Discussion Society was established in 2004. In the beginning we were just a couple of students who wanted to discuss things and exchange opinions.

Yes, of course you can go to the Font (Now Forum) with a few mates, have a few drinks and have discussions there and then. However, it is not the same as discussing issues within an organised society.

Why is this then?

Because you will probably have similar ideas and opinions as your friends otherwise they wouldn’t be your friends, the UHSU Discussion Society is neither a bunch of friends uncritical of each other nor do we all share the same opinions. Therefore, we can learn from each other and expand our ideas.

The UHSU Discussion Society can be seen as a platform for students who are interested in the world around them. Every student must have at least one issue they are interested in, critical of, annoyed by, convinced about, fond of, disillusioned by, or just simply just nosy about.

We are students who are these things and we would like to encourage other fellow students to share their interests and opinions.

Everyone can come along. The discussions take place on a fortnightly basis and the topics are decided by individual members. Moreover, we will also show every other week a film which is free of charge and everyone can come along.

The only thing the UHSU Discussion Society does is to provide a room, an audience of interested people, special equipment if needed, such as projectors, VCRs, film or just a lift to one of our regular social events such as a comedy night in St Albans or London and at times go to the pub to enjoy an evening to carry on a discussion.

If you are a student who does care about things, please feel free to come along and to listen to one of our discussions or just to watch one of the films. You do not have to join straight away, but every member is appreciated.

If you have any questions about the society, please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact us or come and see us.

We run meetings, talks, studies, football, film nights, acoustic nights, prayer nights, BBQs – you name it. If we’re not doing it yet – why not help us start it! Our hope is that throughout everything we do students will encounter Jesus; regardless of their background, Christian or non-Christian, we’re here to bring students into a closer relationship with Him.

If you're already a Christian then we're here for you! We have loads of fun together at the CU and I have no doubt that you will meet some of your best friends in the world here! We would love to meet you and have you involved. We have loads of stuff on during the week so there's always something for you! Our main meeting is every Thursday @ 8pm in the Key Centre (college lane).

We would love to have you along sometime to any of our events! We’re always thinking of new ways to engage students with the Christian message. We aim to be totally down-to-earth and real people - nothing weird! All our members come from totally different backgrounds, beliefs, churches and lifestyles. Come along and find out more!

We have a Student Mass at St. Peter’s Church, Bishop’s Rise every Sunday evening during term-time at 18:00. Afterwards, we meet in the church hall to either socialise or listen to a speaker. We are currently looking at “Vocations” through talks and DVDs.

We meet for Mass with St. Peter’s Parish at 19:00 on a Thursday. after this Mass we say the Rosary together or Lectio Divina (divine reading). This alternates each week.

We have many other events going on which can be found at our website, www.uhcathsoc.org.  Highlights of the current term include a tour of Catholic London, and our “Saints and Sinners” party.

Alternative Music

Welcome to…

Alternative Music

The Alternative Music Society allows people with similar interests to meet, share opinions and take part in music related activities and events. We hold weekly chilled Monday night socials in club De Hav, a place to relax with some drinks and pool, listen to all your song requests all night and meet new people. Our trips, events and everything else will be organised here so come along to find out more!

We also support the alternative music club night, F-Alt, in the Forum every Tuesday night. This is the only night of the week to hear a great selection of alternative genres in the brand new £38 million venue, totally unmissable.

We also organise our infamous trips to alternative club nights up and down the country, such as Sin City in Camden and Rock City in Nottingham. This year we are looking to take members to live gigs and also to expand our trip venue selection, so input would be appreciated! In between these events we will be holding quizzes, Rock Band nights and our legendary scavenger hunts.

So whatever you're into, be it rock, metal, punk, indie, hardcore, industrial, pop punk, ska, nu metal or anything else you can think of, we can pretty much guarantee you'll find someone else into the same thing...
