Democratic Structure

Democracy and student representation are at the centre of everything we do. Every student is invited to take part by standing for election, joining the student council or simply questioning the Sabbatical team or student representatives.

The democratic structure of UHSU consists of a Trustee Board, an Executive Management board and Student Council.

Trustee Board

There are 11 trustees of UHSU: 5 Sabbatical Trustees who are former UH students, 3 current student Trustees and 3 Independent Trustees. Their responsibility is to make sure the UHSU mission and vision reflects the wishes of the members (you). They are also responsible for the effective management and administration of UHSU, through the Chief Executive.

Executive Management Board

This board has responsibility for the running of UHSU on a day-to-day basis. It is made up of the 5 Sabbatical Officers, the St. Albans Campus Officer, the de Havilland Campus Officer and the 5 Senior Managers.

Student Council

Student Council is the most important committee that exists in any union. Members have the collective responsibility of adopting policies that direct the work of UHSU and hold the elected officers and representatives accountable for their work.

Only members of the council can regularly question the Executive Committee on their work and the decisions they carry out in representing you. Only members of the Council can vote on new procedures and policies. Only members of the council have the power to change your experience at UHSU.
